About Me

My photo
Hey Everyone! My name is Hope Ricks and I am a student at UAB studying Early Childhood/ Elementary Education. I plan on returning to school, once I get my undergraduate degree, to get my Master's degree in Special Education. I have such a passion for children and helping them. I love working with children who have special needs and giving them an opportunity to succeed. Robert M. Hensel once said, "I choose not to place "DIS", in my ability". I think this is so true. Any child is willing to learn as much as you require them too. If you think that they can't, then they will think that they can't. In order for them to believe in themself, you have to believe in them first. I am in love with the one who died for my sins! Jesus Christ has done so much for me and brought me through so much that I could have never done on my own. I cannot wait to meet Him in Heaven and walk with Him and talk with Him! That will be a wonderful day! Well that is pretty much it about me. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Fighting Hunger in America

Millions of children die every year due to hunger. There are millions of children who go to bed hungry every night. There are millions of children who go to school hungry everyday. Every child is expected to do their best by their teachers and parents, but with an empty stomach they can barely concentrate.

Teachers and the community need to be aware of children who are not getting enough nutrition. We can help. Teachers should always have extra bread and sandwich meat in the classroom for those days where children cannot afford to eat. Millions of children walk through school doors everyday and never tell anyone that they haven't eaten since lunch the day before. It is a sad thing when we can help, but we don't. We sit back and pretend like it doesn't exist. But when I become a teacher I will make sure that every child is well fed as long as they are with me.

We can make a difference. We can end hunger in America. The question is, "Do we really want to"?
