This semester has been one that has really tested me and what I believe should happen in schools. I love working with special education students and helping them learn to their fullest ability. These students have just as much of an ability to learn as the students who spend their time in the general education classroom full time.
I have seen students this semester who have gotten ignored by their teachers because they are special education students. I thought that teachers were suppose to care about every child and help everyone of them succeed. I was in a room with a teacher who was constantly yelling and screaming at her students, but it felt like she was only directing her attention at the special education students. She was so unfair in the way that she graded those students and I was so upset leaving one afternoon because I knew those students were not getting the help that they needed. Special education students can learn just as much as everyone else as long as we give them the chance to. They can succeed!!!
About Me

- Hey Everyone! My name is Hope Ricks and I am a student at UAB studying Early Childhood/ Elementary Education. I plan on returning to school, once I get my undergraduate degree, to get my Master's degree in Special Education. I have such a passion for children and helping them. I love working with children who have special needs and giving them an opportunity to succeed. Robert M. Hensel once said, "I choose not to place "DIS", in my ability". I think this is so true. Any child is willing to learn as much as you require them too. If you think that they can't, then they will think that they can't. In order for them to believe in themself, you have to believe in them first. I am in love with the one who died for my sins! Jesus Christ has done so much for me and brought me through so much that I could have never done on my own. I cannot wait to meet Him in Heaven and walk with Him and talk with Him! That will be a wonderful day! Well that is pretty much it about me. I hope you enjoy my blog!
