About Me

My photo
Hey Everyone! My name is Hope Ricks and I am a student at UAB studying Early Childhood/ Elementary Education. I plan on returning to school, once I get my undergraduate degree, to get my Master's degree in Special Education. I have such a passion for children and helping them. I love working with children who have special needs and giving them an opportunity to succeed. Robert M. Hensel once said, "I choose not to place "DIS", in my ability". I think this is so true. Any child is willing to learn as much as you require them too. If you think that they can't, then they will think that they can't. In order for them to believe in themself, you have to believe in them first. I am in love with the one who died for my sins! Jesus Christ has done so much for me and brought me through so much that I could have never done on my own. I cannot wait to meet Him in Heaven and walk with Him and talk with Him! That will be a wonderful day! Well that is pretty much it about me. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Fight to keep drugs out of school!

In so many schools across the country there is a drug problem. Kids as early as the 6th grade are exposed to drugs in the school. The drug programs may work a little bit, but it does not look like they are working as well as they need to be. More needs to be done in the school systems to keep kids from doing them.

I have done observations in many schools, both urban and suburban. By my knowledge up to this point, I thought that drugs were only a problem in inner city schools. Schools that are known for having the bad reputation and always known for the bad things. But after seeing many types of schools, I realized that drugs are in virtually every school. According to http://www.teendrugabuse.us, more than 60 percent of teens said that drugs were sold, used, or kept at their school. That is a huge number that can be prevented if the schools would issue some kind of plan to keep children active and away from drugs.

The schools, community, and parents have a huge challenge when it comes to preventing young adults from trying drugs. Even though there will still be kids who try drugs, the number can drastically decrease if we put a little bit of effort into it.
