About Me

My photo
Hey Everyone! My name is Hope Ricks and I am a student at UAB studying Early Childhood/ Elementary Education. I plan on returning to school, once I get my undergraduate degree, to get my Master's degree in Special Education. I have such a passion for children and helping them. I love working with children who have special needs and giving them an opportunity to succeed. Robert M. Hensel once said, "I choose not to place "DIS", in my ability". I think this is so true. Any child is willing to learn as much as you require them too. If you think that they can't, then they will think that they can't. In order for them to believe in themself, you have to believe in them first. I am in love with the one who died for my sins! Jesus Christ has done so much for me and brought me through so much that I could have never done on my own. I cannot wait to meet Him in Heaven and walk with Him and talk with Him! That will be a wonderful day! Well that is pretty much it about me. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Bullying in Schools

In today's schools there is so much violence. There is bullying and gangs and just plain mean kids. Kids that are considered uncool are beat up either physically or emotionally. And the only thing that happens to the bully is at worst suspended from school.

I do not like the way that kids are treated by other kids because of the way they look, the way they dress, or because they are smart. After observing in a school this semester I saw exactly how kids were treated. And let me just tell you that kids are MEAN!!! They do not care who they hurt as long as they get what they want. And it always amazes me that some teachers sit back and pretend that it never even happened. So the bully keeps on because he/she knows that nothing will happen.

As a future teacher I think that it is time to stand up for the kids who can't stand up for themselves. The kids who are constantly picked on and the kids who are always made fun of. These are the kids who hate going to school and have an awful school experience. This has to change. Every child should feel safe at school!
